Jorge Corpuna, watercolor exhibition

Jorge Corpuna, watercolor exhibition

"Water has a memory and carries within itself our thoughts and prayers. Because you yourself are water, no matter where you are, your prayers will be carried to the rest of the world." Masaru Emoto

Description

From June 3rd to June 23rd, 2024, Le Papillon Art Gallery is pleased to present the Zen landscapes of the Peruvian watercolor master Jorge Corpuna. This is a long-awaited exhibition, postponed due to the complicated situation of recent years. The author is known to the Bulgarian public from his participation in the International Watercolor Triennial, but for the first time he is visiting Bulgaria with a solo exhibition. 26 watercolors have been selected for the exhibition, inspired both by the majestic Andes and the sacred atmosphere they bring, as well as by the artist's travels in Argentina, France, Italy. The exhibition would preceded by a master class, which would happen with the kind support of the Municipality of Varna.

Jorge's watercolors are a sincere homage to the perfection of nature. He constructs realistic mountain and field landscapes, with a hint of human presence, that quickly capture the viewer's mind and bring contemplation to a meditative level. The artist's point of view is from above and over the horizon, and he easily achieves the impression of spaciousness  and flight. Jorge undoubtedly masters the technique "a la prima" as well as the movement of water and pigment with minimalistic gestures and means of expression. A state of airiness and spaciousness flows equally from all his landscapes. The atmosphere and fragrance are almost physical sensations from the green fields of western France. Such is the transparency of the air high in the Andes or from Argentina. Often his landscapes do not bear the cultural or recognizable marks of a particular city or country. They are sealed with water and watercolors as a memory of an experience, as we can recognize many states as well as our native dear sights from Bulgaria. For Jorge, the connection with nature and being able to preserve the memory of it is important.

A virtuoso master of the complex technique of watercolor, Jorge Corpuna uses its infinite possibilities and creates beautiful works that have an emotional impact and tell stories even without the presence of characters. In fact, the "main characters" with a major role in his works are air and light. Sometimes only hinted delicate white clouds in an almost colorless sky create the sense of infinity and timelessness in "The Eucalyptus Trees of Carantec" and "In the Fresh Air". Another time, a few rays of sun broke through thick clouds and bathed a part of the horizon in bright light, sealing a "Magic Moment in Britain". And when the masterful brush of the author has recreated dark storm clouds or the rain in the distance, we can feel all the drama of the moment before a storm and the power of the cycle in nature. Jorge Corpuna is a true master of the landscape - even ordinary views of a mountain peak, a river, a field or dramatic clouds have a magical effect and instantly connect them with nature.
