The captivating pictorial travelogue of Namibia by Desislava Mincheva

by Art Gallery Le Papillon 17 Nov 2024

The exhibition that the artist has prepared for the two exhibition spaces of the Le Papillon Art Gallery is a selection of works created in recent months, inspired by an exciting journey to Namibia. The theme of the grandeur of nature has been repeatedly studied by the artist, and in this exposition with particular power the excitement of the artist of the unreal beauty of this earth is felt. Sealed breathtaking views, the paintings of Dessislava Mincheva turn the real landscapes into a surreal experience for the senses, where planet Earth would be recognized as another. In this peculiar picturesque essay of paintings, the words of Dessislava Mincheva and her fascinating story from the experience are immersing us in:

"If there are any coincidences in our life, so we went to Namibia just like that - by chance. Then, within 2 months, we visited it for a second time. We traveled together with my son. At the beginning, I knew internally that I had to keep in paintings (not just in photos) this sense of the greatness of nature, otherwise it would be somehow meaningless to me. However, sharing beauty is part of the human path ...

What I saw, lived through and experienced there was unexpected, despite my preliminary information. It was completely new to me and in fact - love at first sight. Strong, impactful beauty and strangeness that make you rethink all previous ideas and clichés. It is impossible to describe in words that anticipation of dawning in the Namib desert to encounter the absolute, unreal beauty of the pink sands - perfect in their natural geometry, with the sharp lights and dark blue shadows, it is difficult to express the amazement and the fullness of feeling before infinity, the vastness and perfection of the earth's forms there, and the desire to hold the moment before the light changes the landscape, literally for minutes... The climbing and rising to the top of 300m high huge dunes, the crimson red sands by the ocean, the archaic canyons and uninhabited mountains, the tribes you really touch - exotic to us and completely authentic still, the herds of seals and the lakes pink from colonies of flamingos, the night sky with a bright Milky Way and stars in unknown configurations hanging above you as if in layers, countless... Wild animals walking around in places existing from the moment of their creation and remained intact so far ... All this is something that drives us, even requires us to put ourselves in our right place - tiny dusts inhabiting the big world for a short time. We could and must at least experience our admiration and love, at least that!

In Namibia, you want to extend your life time and manage to see this immense beauty again. But even if it is not meant for me to stand again, silent among the dunes, even if I could no longer be a viewer and a participant in this grand spectacle, I know that my memories of this place will accompany me to the end. In Namibia, you seem to return to where everything on earth began. The experiences in those lands are somehow very deep, archetypal. Real! Outside of unconditional beauty, you are particularly confronted with the creation, unprovoked and uninvited by civilization dust. That's why this place is so strong!"

Her creativity is genuine and frank, so is the personality of Desislava Mincheva herself - demanding to herself, strong and religious to beauty in everything. Her drawing is not an idealized beauty behind realism, but a real strong emotion, because art gives more than what we see in life. Her works provoke the creative forces of human nature to reflection, to creativity and inspire life. He stood in front of her works unnoticed in a philosophical, aesthetic and moral dimensions, where he could seek answers for the transitional and the transient, about the mortality and eternity, about reality and ideals.
