Budin Mateev, painting exhibition

by Art Gallery Le Papillon 08 Jan 2024

From January 11 to 21, 2024, Le Papillon Art Gallery invites you to a kind of ritual recharge of our spirit with the cheerful colors of Budin Mateev. Budin Mateev left us not long ago in 2021, but his work, full of life and serenity, continues to cause a natural smile and good mood in the viewer. His manner of applying paints, the compositions, which often follow the prism of ray cubism, speak of his own, authentic style, which the artist has built up over the years of work and experiments. His Fauvist handwriting is distinctive, and his bright yet soft tones, both in his oil and watercolor work, leave no viewer indifferent. His paintings are attractive with the variety and moderation of the range in which he works, but his modesty does not establish his name among the general public. And that is why the gallery decided to start the year with its "RE-DISCOVERY" in an exhibition. Our desire is to show worthy creativity that causes excitement and joy, regardless of the time in which it was created, and to preserve the memory of artists who leave a lasting mark on time. For the exhibition, 5 watercolors and 13 oil works have been selected with the intention of recharging the senses with the magnificent feeling of warmth, summer and joy of life that his paintings undeniably create, whether they are on landscape or subject topics. Budin is a romantic and picturesquely expressive contemplator of the landscape, be it urban or rural. His sense of pulse and rhythm guides his approach to fragmenting into patches of color that summarizes the artist's gaze and yet creates a panoramic suggestion of space.

The exhibition distinguishes 3 periods of his work with a difference of 10 years, and we can recognize his attraction to the so-called "radiant cubism" with a fauvistic approach, typical of the Russian school and followed in Bulgaria by very few artists. Regardless of the date, all his paintings captivate with their strong positive mood. The sun's heat is physically tangible. The silence of the moment perceives, or the city noise and cheerful speech, convincingly achieved by the artist through the tides of pure tones, as well as the perfect balance in contrasts.

Welcome to the vernissage of the exhibition on 11.01.2024 /Thursday/ from 11.11 a.m. to 7.19 p.m. in the exhibition hall of the Art Gallery Le Papillon and you will inevitably be captivated by the mood of the colors in the works of Budin Mateev!
