George Milenov & Natalia Abaeva, sculpture & painting exhibition

by Art Gallery Le Papillon 08 May 2024

In the exhibition of the two artists, the Reflections do not come from the grotesque and cynical everyday life, but from the depth of self-knowledge, spiritual searches and experiences of the artists, who are partners not only in this exhibition, but also in life. These are reflections of feelings, memories, dreams - full color and exquisite - both in form and in content.

George Milenov presents sculptures executed in ceramics and its rougher manifestation - fireclay. The themes on which he interprets his creations are classical and philosophical, but they reflect the worldview of a modern person who has managed to preserve within himself the traditions and values of true art. The plasticity of his figures conveys the spirit of freedom of expression, whether the form has a rougher and incised structure, with an inscribed drawing or a smoothly sculpted delicate surface. His sculpture preserves movement, inner longing and emotional state.

The artistic ceramics of George Milenov is expressed in a modern vision, where classical practices are combined with precise technologies and a modern creative solution. This way of combining different means of expression into a whole product based on ceramics is innovative for Bulgaria. The fact that he graduated from the National Academy of Arts under Prof. Krasimir Jidrov is also important for his artistic approaches.

Natalia Abaeva is a contemporary pointillist, hinting at form with vague, disjointed outlines from multiple relief brushstrokes. In the current exhibition, we can find works developed in different directions, but all with the unobtrusive lightness characteristic of the author. Her work is devoid of the problems of everyday life - the author, immersed in herself, in her dreams and aspirations, shares her personal world with the viewer. With her paintings, the mind rises above surreal fields of poppies and sunflowers, where there is nothing but meditation and a colorful mood as far as the eye can see. Spirituality and self-absorption is palpable not only in the stylized iconographic images of angels, present as a sense of flight and air among the many pulsating strokes of color. Regardless of the direction of the stylization, the technique and the active and at the same time gentle color, the suggestion of protection and freedom of the spirit flows from each of her works.
